Canal Street improvements ready to begin

Published on January 16, 2013 with No Comments

After nearly five (5) years since applying for $750,000 in grant funding, the City of Milton is nearing the start of construction of the Canal Street Improvements. Funding was received from the State of Florida under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The Project will consist of replacing older power poles with new ones, replacing overhead electrical services to homes with underground services, upgrading gas mains, adding a new turn lane at U.S. 90, realigning the intersections of Canal/Pine St. and Canal/Henry St. providing for safer approaches. Additionally, to better improve the Canal St. and U.S. 90 intersection, the north end of Pike St. will become a dead end. Canal St and U.S. 90 will also receive a new and upgraded traffic signal. The project will include new period street lighting, landscaping, sidewalks, concrete curbing and asphalt resurfacing. Santa Rosa County will also provide funding for the continuation of the new sidewalks down to the Railroad Depot.
