Dale Hamilton, animal services director, was recognized as Santa Rosa County’s Public Service Employee of the Year at the Feb. 13 board of county commission meeting. Hamilton was selected for his exceptional performance as interim director of animal services from the four public service employee of the quarter recipients. Along with Hamilton, the board also recognized Erin Malbech, housing program coordinator; Ed McCants, veteran services specialist and Laurie Shultz, office assistant for their outstanding service in 2013.

Hamilton joined Santa Rosa County’s Building Inspections in 2006, transferring to animal services in 2008 as an animal control officer. While still carrying out his duties as an animal control officer, he also took on the interim director duties during an extended illness of the previous director.  Since becoming the full time director, he continues to focus on meeting the needs of customers and animals during several very challenging events as well as day-to-operations.
