The name Martha Adams may be a familiar name to some Milton residents, but she was a woman of great accomplishment and distinction.

During the March 11 meeting of the Milton City Council, the city honored Adams for her service with the city in the purchasing department for Milton from 1973 to 1982.

At the meeting Milton Mayor presented a plaque to Adams’ husband John honoring his late wife as being the first African-American female employee to work for the City of Milton.

Martha Adams passed away on August 15, 2013.
