Independence Day, July 4, is a big part of America’s history.

To be exact it was 238 years ago when our forefathers signed the Deceleration of Independence.

To help celebrate this historical occasion the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce will host a Celebration of Freedom with the 2014 Riverfest in historic downtown Milton along the Milton Riverwalk.

The day will get underway at 9 a.m. with the 13th Annual Firecracker Bike Show and the Freedom Car Show.

Registration is $10 for the bike show with trophies to be awarded in 18 categories as well as a people’s choice. The car show registration is free with big trophies to be awarded as well.

The awards ceremony will be held at the South Pavilion with the bike show at 1 p.m. and the car show at 2 p.m.

If you are looking for children’s activities then look no further than Treasure Island, which will open at 11 a.m. with fun activities for children of all ages at the North Gazebo until 5 p.m.

A 5 p.m. will be the Great Mill Town Duck Race with the sponsor of the fastest duck receiving $1,600.

At 6:30 p.m. the group Franklin’s Tower will be performing at the North Gazebo and a Veteran’s Salute will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Santa Rosa Veteran’s Memorial Plaza.

At 7 p.m. you can karaoke the night away until the fireworks show beings with Boogie Inc. at the South Pavilion as well.

Then at dark everyone will be treated to an awesome fireworks display over the Blackwater River.

For those of you who will spend the day on your boat, you are welcome to watch the fireworks from the river, but a NO WAKE ZONE is in effect the entire day from the North side of Russell Harber Landing to the Railroad Bridge.
