Millie Hare said she enjoys coming to work everyday because she loves helping people feel welcome.

“I was a hairdresser for 35 years. When I retired from the business it wasn’t long before I wanted to go to work again. My daughter Deta and I decided to open the antique mall.” She said the location of her business, 6400 Highway 90 in Milton is an excellent location for her. “We’ve owned the building since 1989. It’s perfect for what we do. I love helping people. I love antiques. It just works.”

Millie’s Antiques is located at 6400 Highway 90 in Milton. Open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Call 850-626-8300 for more information and visit their Facebook page.

Hare opened Millie’s Antiques on May 1, 2013 and hasn’t looked back. She said she has 100 dealers, some who owns more than one booth in the mall. “It’s fun to see our dealers happy and successful,” she said.

An extrovert, Hare said talking to customers and helping people is the best part of having her own antique mall. “I do the selling and Deta is the bookkeeper. This makes it easy for both of us,” she said.

Hare said she’s from Chumuckla but moved to Milton more than 60 years ago. She said she and her husband Jack love living in the city because of the friendships they’ve cultivated throughout the years.

“People forget about the importance of small town life. I can visit any place of business in Milton and they all know who I am; I can hug their necks and ask about their family. There’s true value in these relationships,” she said. “My son Derik owns Downtown Motors and says the very same thing. I love feeling comfortable in my hometown.”

Christmas 2016 season was a success for Millie's Antiques, said Hare.

Christmas 2016 season was a success for Millie’s Antiques, said Hare.

She said the holidays are a successful time of year when customers are looking for the perfect vintage gift; as the new year begins people are clearing out and reorganizing. They begin looking for furniture and décor to spice the place up a bit. Looking forward to the spring, Hare said she’s excited about this year’s Flea Across Florida which will happen the 2nd weekend of April and September. “We see thousands come through and browse. It’s very exciting!”
