City fountain, located at the corner of Elmira and Caroline Streets bubbles with teal water for the month of April.

On Friday, March 31 a proclamation was read declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in the City of Milton. The city fountain on Caroline Street bubbles with teal colored water. Representatives from Lakeview Center, Favor House and Santa Rosa Kid’s House gathered with information to show their support.

Milton Police Chief Tony Tindell said  “Sexual assault awareness is important to everyone in our community. According to statistics, 4,730 arrests were made for forcible sex offenses in Florida in 2015.  One is too many,” said Tindell.

Captain Todd Bahlau, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Whiting Field said a sexual assault happens every 98 seconds in the United States. “NAS Whiting Field is partnering with the City of Milton to get the word out. Awareness, getting the word, out can prevent it. People can report it if they know it’s happened, they can help someone recover from it by assisting,” he said.

Captain Todd Bahlau, Commanding Officer at NASWF signs the declaration. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson waits to sign.

Bahlau and Tindell were joined by Santa Rosa Sheriff Bob Johnson, Milton City Councilman Jeff Snow and Milton City Councilwoman Mary Johnson.
