Milton the 17th fastest growing city in Florida

Surely the residents of Milton have noticed the city is getting a little more popular these days. Recently, a study was conducted by the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research, naming the city of Milton as the 17th fastest growing city in Florida. According to the 2010 census, there has been a 25.3 percent increase in Milton’s population since 2000. Milton is the county seat of Santa Rosa County and has a lot to offer. The area includes a variety of key industries, top-rated school systems, amazing property costs, and a variety of recreational activities. This progressive city truly has something for everyone.

Santa Rosa County contains a wide-variety of leading industries, but the Naval Air Station Whiting Field tops the list. Occupying approximately 12,000 acres just north of Milton, NAS Whiting Field holds a mission to produce the military’s best trained “Aviation Warfighter.” This is where the future of Naval Aviation begins as the host of 20 tenant activities, including the Training Air Wing FIVE who produces over 700 pilots a year. The city’s major government employers are the Santa Rosa County Courthouse and the City of Milton Municipal Complex. Santa Rosa Medical Center expanded during 2002 in anticipation of the continued growth of the county. This now 129-bed hospital has been located in Milton since 1952, and is the primary provider of healthcare services and emergency medicine in Santa Rosa County. Santa Rosa Medical Center is committed to maintaining excellent care that meets the needs of its growing community. In addition, the agriculture industry accounts for nearly $60 million in annual revenue in Santa Rosa County with the potential to be even larger.

When it comes to the quality of education students will receive, look no further than Santa Rosa County. Of all the 67 school districts in Florida, Santa Rosa County schools ranked number two as best performing students in the state on FCAT scores. Santa Rosa County is, and always has been, an “A” school district based on grades by the Florida Department of Education. Furthermore, the city of Milton is located only 20 miles from Pensacola and the sugar-white sands of Pensacola Beach.
