W.H. Rhodes fifth grader takes first in Public Speaking Contest

The county-wide 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking County contest was held on May 15, 2013 in Milton, Florida.  Santa Rosa County school winners representing 4th, 5th and 6th grade participated in the County Contest.

County Contest Winners

6th grade

 1st Place – Megan Rudman – Woodlawn Beach Middle

2nd Place – Kailey Cutts – Chumuckla Elementary

3rd Place – Jaeci Cooley – Jay Elementary

Honorable Mention – Kevin Van Dorn – Holley Navarre Middle

5th grade

1st Place – Stephen English – W. H. Rhodes Elementary

2nd Place – Shelby Balk – Chumuckla Elementary

3rd Place – Jaime Petrone – Holley Navarre Intermediate

Honorable Mention – Dalton Lewis – Jay Elementary

4th grade

1st Place – Wyn Newton – S. S. Dixon Intermediate

2nd Place- Mason West – W. H. Rhodes Elementary

3rd Place – Taylor Miller – Benny Russell Elementary

Honorable Mention – Jackson Arnold – Chumuckla Elementary

The 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking program is made available each year for 4th, 5th and 6th grade teachers to implant as a 4-H School Enrichment program.  This unique program is designed to provide a fun way for students to learn public speaking skills.

Curriculum materials including a teacher lesson plan guide and student materials are made available to teachers at no cost.  Teachers who choose to participate in the program utilize the curriculum materials provided and conduct classroom contests to determine classroom winners who advance to a school competition.

Participating schools conduct a contest to determine school winners who are awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals.
