Milton grad Lawrence Tynes has become the newest member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tynes, who won two Super Bowl rings as a kicker for the New York Giants, became a free agent following the 2012-13 season.

The opportunity with the Buccaneers became available when last season’s staring kicker Connor Barth suffered a torn right Achilles tendon while playing in a charity basketball game.

According to published reports Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik was excited about the availability of Tynes at this time of year.

“We are disappointed to lose a productive player like Connor but are very fortunate to be able to sign an experienced kicker at this time of year,” Dominik said.

Tynes has played in the NFL for the past nine season splitting time between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Giants.

During his career Tynes is 190 of 233 career field goal attempts.

Last season with the G-men Tynes made 33 of 39 field goal attempts and all 46 of his extra point opportunities resulting in a career high 145 points. That was second in the NFL last season.
