It is great to be Bubba, Gerry Lester “Bubba” Watson that is!
Thursday Milton and Santa Rosa County welcomed home the two-time Master’s champion with rallies at three local schools – Bagdad Elementary, Hobbs Middle, and Milton High.
Watson, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the World Golf Rankings enjoyed what was an emotional return home after capturing his second green jacket in three years.
“I don’t know how it could have been any better,” said Milton High School Athletic Director Murray Rutledge, who was also Watson’s golf coach in high school. “The kids were so receptive and welcoming.
“They went crazy and made him feel right at home.”
Bubba, who was born in Pensacola but raised in Bagdad and graduated from Milton in 1997, was honored by Milton Mayor Guy Thompson who proclaimed April as Bubba Watson Month in the City of Milton.
Watson, who has been enshrined in the Milton Sports Hall of Fame with fellow Panther and PGA Pro Boo Weekley, also brought some gifts as well.
He gave over $60,000 to the three school he visited to help with the schools needs.
Watson, who is a six time winner on the PGA Tour, worked with the local schools and organizations to return to Milton and Santa Rosa County so they could be a part of his celebration.
