Whiting Field MWR opens RV Park

Published on April 04, 2014 with No Comments

Naval Air Station Whiting Field Commanding Officer Matthew Coughlin cut the red ribbon, and as the two ends fell apart, the new Morale, Welfare, Recreation (MWR) RV Park was officially open.  Dubbed “Clear Creek RV Park”, the facility had its ribbon cutting ceremony Mar. 13; with its first tenant moving in Mar. 21.

The Park was awarded as a Navy Construction project in November of 2012, and is nestled just outside the west gate along Magda Village Lane.  The 10-site park backs up to a wooded area and the facility is dotted with beautiful trees, shrubs and other landscaping.  The 10 sites measure 20’x40′ and provide full hook-ups (water, sewer, electrical) with 30/50amp electrical.  A convenient shower and laundry facility makes the Camping experience convenient.

“We are proud to be able to offer another service to our patrons,” said MWR Director Joseph Vukovcan.  “Clear Creek RV Park should provide easy access to the base facilities as well as quick access to the tremendous natural resources of Santa Rosa County.”

Clear Creak RV Park is about 20 minutes from Interstate 10, approximately 8 miles north Hwy 90.  The park is close to other outdoor recreational opportunities such as walking and hiking trails, off-road biking, sports fields, fishing and is convenient to other amenities.  Travelers do not have to go far to find the local NEX, Commissary, Barber Shop, swimming pools and a state of the art Fitness Center – not to mention the large inventory of Outdoor Adventure equipment like canoe and kayak, bike, campers, and camping supplies that may be rented from the base.

“This new addition to the Navy’s RV Parks system provides just one more opportunity for our patrons to find convenient stops along a vacation route, stays in the comfort and security confines of a military base, and offers a chance to get away from busy day-to-day life,” Vukovcan emphasized.

The RV Park is only open to active duty and retired military, their families, as well as Department of Defense civilian employees.

The rates are:  $20 per day, $115 per week and $350 per month for active duty and retirees and $24 per day, $135 per week, and $400 per month for Department of Defense civilian employees.
