July will be a very busy month at the Santa Rosa County Public Libraries.

Other than being closed July 4th and 5th for Independence Day, there is a full schedule of activities planned.

Summer Reading Program through July 18

Come to the library for a fun program! Read for 15 minutes per day through July 18 for great prizes. You may register online at www.santarosa.fl.gov/libraries. Pick up a reading calendar at your library or print one online from the program registration page. Bring your completed reading log to your library’s last program to claim your prize!

Programs for students who were in kindergarten through the 5th grades during the last school year will be held:

  • Mondays at 2 p.m. at the Jay Library
  • Tuesdays at 1 p.m. at the Navarre Library
  • Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Pace Library
  • Wednesdays at 1 p.m. at the Milton Library
  • Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library

All activities are free and open to the public.

Story Time @ your library®

Story time for 3 to 5 year olds who are able to attend without a caregiver will be held during the following times from June 9 through July 18:

  • 11 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
  • 11 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library
  • 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library
  • 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library
  • 11 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

Family Movie Afternoons @ your library® – Milton Library; Wednesdays, 1 p.m., July 23 – Aug 6

Extend your summer library fun!  Join us at the Milton Library on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for family movie afternoons from July 23 through August 6.  A variety of entertaining movies will be shown.  The movies are free and open to the public.  The Milton Library is located at 5541 Alabama St. in Milton.

Youth Chess Club @ your library® – Pace Library; Wednesdays 4 – 7 p.m.

The Youth Chess Club will provide a fun atmosphere for kids ages 7 – 18 to learn the history and strategies of the game of chess. Lessons begin each Wednesday at 4 p.m. with play beginning at 4:30 p.m. Players will be matched based on age and skill level.  All equipment will be provided.  Registration is not required. Please contact the Pace Library at 981-READ (7323) for more information. The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace.

Genealogy Research Assistance @ your library® Milton Library; Mondays 9 a.m. – noon, Tuesdays, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon, Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St. to give general genealogy research guidance, one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers, and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

Hopeful Hearts @ your library® Navarre Library; Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

A series of meetings for “Hopeful Hearts,” a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The weekly sessions will address grief support, following an educational outline, and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. The meetings will be facilitated by Jennifer Gilbert, MSW of Emerald Coast Hospice. All materials will be provided, refreshments will be served, and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate.  The programs are held at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – July 8, 5 p.m.

Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library.  The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.  For more information, visit www.facebook.com/friendsofgblibrary.

Coffee Talk @ your library® – Gulf Breeze; July 9, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

This month’s selection is Wave by Deraniyagala. The nonfiction book club meets at the Gulf Breeze Library study room on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month. Speak with a staff member for details.  Please call the library or drop by to sign up and speak to a staff member today about reserving your copy! The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

Hospice Hour @ your library®– Navarre Library; July 23, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Daina Skinner R.N., BSN, of Emerald Coast Hospice, will explain how hospice services work, what types of services are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program will be held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Friends of the Milton Library Christmas in July Book Sale – July 25 & 26

It may be July, but the Friends are in a giving mood. Celebrate the season and beat the dog days of summer by stocking up on books to take on your vacation.  If you aren’t going on a vacation, books can take you on one.  There will be a variety of books for you to choose from. Hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks are four for $1. Tablet / E-Reader Workshop @ your library® – Milton Library; Aug. 2, 10 a.m. – noon

Do you own a new tablet or e-reader? Are you confused about what your digital device can do or how to use it? If so, this workshop is for you. You may bring any tablet/E-Reader Device (I-Pad, Nook, Kindle, etc). See a staff member for details. Participation is limited to the first 20 who register online.  The Milton Library is located at 5541 Alabama Street in Milton.

Celebrate The Wizard of Oz @ your library® 

In August, help us celebrate the 75th anniversary of Dorothy and her friends. Don’t let the flying monkeys keep you from following the yellow brick road to your library where you can enjoy the festivities. Please contact your library for details at (850) 981-READ.
