Registrations are pouring in and there is still time for you to register for the Milton Riverwalk Run 5K set for Oct. 4 in historic downtown Milton.

And if the nice certified course in not enough to entice the runner or walker in you, how does the chance to win $250 sound.

Three lucky runners could walk away with $250 as well as one school, but the key is you have to register and be there after the race.

Two of the awards are held if a man or woman breaks the course record at the Riverwalk Run 5K.

Last year Susan Smith walked away with $250 after she broke Sandy Eubanks record set in 2010 by posting a time of 20:12.

The men’s record was set in 2011, when Nate Crum posted a time of 15:46. Crum, who moved to Milton just days before the race, registered after noticing a poster for the race while getting his utilities turned on at city hall.

The easiest way to win is by participating and knowing your bib number.

One bib number will be selected at random and if that runner or walker is present, they will earn $250.

But the key for your chance to win is that you have to register and be present after the race.

Speaking of after the race, the CrossTown Band will be performing a special edition of Bands on the Blackwater at 5:30 p.m.

So even if you don’t run, you can come to historic downtown Milton and listen to the sounds of the CrossTown Band near the corner of Elmira and Pine Street.

Finally students and teachers can help their high, middle, or elementary school win $250.

Runners and walkers can help their respective school earn a $250 prize for the most individuals participating. When students or teachers register they can list their school, Pace, Milton, Central, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Hobbs Middle, or any other school in the tri-county area.

“Regardless of skill level, we want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to win,” said Katie Nichols, event director.

But you not only have to participate, but you must register as well.

Registration for the Riverwalk Run 5K this year is being done online at www.runsignup.com through Sept. 26.

If you register for the Riverwalk Run 5K online after Sept. 1 the cost will be $25 with a shirt and $20 without a shirt.

On Sept. 29 there will be early package pickup and late registration at Academy Sports + Outdoors at University Shoppes in Pensacola from 4 to 7 p.m. A second one will be held at Anytime Fitness in on Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a third one at the Milton Community Center on Oct. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Registration fee includes a T-shirt, race bag to the first 350 people to pick up their packet, as well as post-race refreshments provided by Winn Dixie and other sponsors.

Race day registration is $25 at the Riverwalk Pavilion on S. Willing St. next to the Santa Rosa County Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, but shirts at this time will not be guaranteed.

Strollers are welcome in the Riverwalk Run 5K, but there may be some areas along the course that are difficult to get through with one, especially the section along the Riverwalk Boardwalk which can be a little bumpy and narrow at the entrance and exit.
