Complaints about nuisance alligators prompt new signage at Carpenter’s Park

Two 4 foot nuisance alligators were spotted at the bayou, south of boat launch at Carpenter’s Park. New caution signage is posted prominently in the park. Please watch children while in the park and do not feed any wildlife. Safety is key to a fun summer.

The city posted a message on social media and experienced exponential response with 582 shares and 60 comments. Some postings were responding to the warning, while most commented on regular sightings at the park for years.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife, a total of 274 major unprovoked alligator bites reported in the state of Florida from 1948 through 2017. No major attacks were reported in Santa Rosa County by Fish and Wildlife .
